There are many times when individual items or collections cannot be sold locally to bring the most money. We can act as your agent to locate the best (most profitable) market for your items.
We will provide the following to help assist in selling your item for the most it can realize:
Consult with you the time frame the item needs to sell within. As expected, the more time you can wait the greater the selling price may be. For example, some auctions only occur a few times a year and if you can wait the results may be substantially higher than being forced to sell quickly
Photograph and document your item(s)
Locate the dealers or auctions that have the best results for your item(s) regardless of there location
Submit information to these sources and handle all negotiation of commissions and other charges *
Arrange shipping *
Remain as the go-between through the whole process
* You will be responsible for costs such as shipping, insurance, commissions, etc.
Our usual charge for this is 10% of the final selling price. We have found this to be a very profitable service for our clients who have items that require it. Below are two recent examples for November 2012:
R J Horner Dining Room Set
Auction estimate in the Atlanta area, $6,000 - 8,000.. We located an auction that specialized in this type of furniture in Massachusetts. We were able to negotiate the same 20% commission that would have been charged locally. Additionally, the auction house picked up the dining room set and did the needed restorations for the same as the restorations alone would have cost here.
The set sold 11/17/12 for $17,500 almost tripling the local Atlanta estimate. For the cost of $1,750, we obtained over 2-1/2 times what the local result would have been for our client.
Another dining room set of Monterey style furniture made in the 1930-1940's that was in an estate we were doing would have brought $2,000 or less if sold locally if it would have sold at all. Within 48 hours we had obtained four interested dealers in southern California. All by e-mail, we obtained a selling price of $32,500 and the dealer paid the shipping to get it to them in Pasadena.
